MyGov Citizen Portal:
How many times, before Modi Government, did you hear that Indian government actually had a portal, and it was actually updated? At least I had never heard of any, barring a few badly designed and we-are-never-mantained websites, which I could not hate any more.
But visit MyGov.in, and you will change your views about ‘can Indian government be so active on internet?’ Firstly, the website is absolutely beautiful and it is so professionally done. The sections are properly arranged, it is updated with all the news and updates on activities of the government. And not only that, it also keeps running various contests to keep general public involved, such as logo contests for various initiatives, various dialogues where one can express his / her views, and it also lets you tell the government what topics would you like to talk about.
Look at these statistics to understand the success of the #MyGov portal:
I guess this is a perfect example of a government actually being involved. If not this, then what?
Mann Ki Baat
‘Mann Ki Baat’ is a radio program where Modi ji himself comes and touches base with the general public. He talks about general topics and also takes up questions sent by public and answers them.
With all the technological developments and everybody going ‘social’ in all aspects, what Modi Government has not forgotten is that Radio is still one medium that is still used by the economically weaker section. Those who cannot afford to go ‘social’ on websites like Facebook or Twitter, etc.
The best part is that he himself speaks on the show. That according to me, gives it a personal touch. Even if he Modiji is doing it fake, even being a Prime Minister, he is taking out time personally to fake it out (and you know what I mean)!
All episodes of Mann Ki Baat can be accessed from his website. Here is the link – Mann Ki Baat.
Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojna
This initiative by Modi Government is about financial inclusion of the general public. It aims to ensure that each and everyone has access to financial services, such as Savings Accounts, Deposit schemes, Insurance, remittances, etc.
Under this scheme 18,096,130 accounts were opened in 1 week! And this is officially recorded as Guiness Worl Record
Under the scheme (source: Wikipedia):
1. Account holders will be provided zero-balance bank account with RuPay debit card, in addition to accidental insurance cover of Rs 1 lakh (to be given by ‘HDFC Ergo’)
2. Those who open accounts by January 26, 2015 over and above the 1 lakh ₹ accident, they will be given life insurance cover of ₹ 30,000 (to be given by LIC)
3. After Six months of opening of the bank account, holders can avail 5,000 ₹ overdraft from the bank.
4. With the introduction of new technology introduced by National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), a person can transfer funds, check balance through a normal phone which was earlier limited only to smart phones so far.
5. Mobile banking for the poor would be available through National Unified USSD Platform (NUUP) for which all banks and mobile companies have come together
I think that this is an absolutely fabulous initiative by the Modi Government, given it is executed as it supposed to be.
Investment Fund of ₹ 1,000 Crore for Tech Startups
Did you think that all initiatives by Modi Government were only pro-poor?
“Experimenting in cutting edge technologies, creating value out of ideas, initiatives and creating them into scalable enterprises and businesses is at the core of our strategies”
~ Mr. Arun Jaitley, Finance (in his speech during Budget FY16)
While writing this post, I did not have any solid news as to how this will be spent (I actually did try to find). But even if half of this is spent appropriately, it will give a big push to Indian Startup scene which anyways is seeing so much enthusiasm.
Digital Cloud for Citizens:
Now this one is an amazing concept and will clean out bureaucracy at lower levels to a large extent. It aims to provide all your important records and government-issued documents, such as Birth Certificate, Education Records, and other such documents in Digital Lockers. So, next time you go to any government office, you would not need to carry hard copies of these documents. That particular department will have access to read these documents and will process your request.
This will ensure that you will not be harassed unnecessarily for producing such documents or for getting them nortarized, etc. This initiative is till being worked out and is not yet out.
On a closing note:
Other than the above initiatives, there are many more initiatives, which you and I may not have heard of. They may not touch our lives directly, but will make a difference in some aspect. What I am trying to say is that this time, Our Government, is trying to set the base right first. And, once this base is set, there will be lot of things that will fall in place by itself.
Take the example of LPG Subsidy transfer in your bank account. At know this first-hand and hence can say for sure – it will reduce the black marketing of LPG cylinders to a hell lot extent. I have myself have faced situations when a cylinder from my annual quota of 12 was sold to someone else and it was showing up in my records with the LPG distributors. This could happen because the difference between the amount they were sold at in black market, and its subsidized rate went to these black-market sellers. But, now when this amount will get directly credited to my account, it is a huge reason for these guys to NOT sell in black market! Makes Sense, right?
This post is neither pro-BJP nor did I get paid to write this post. This post has been written with sheer happiness and enthusiasm about the fact that this time, our government, Modi Government, is actually making things change in India.
I agree that there will be lot of things which we can criticize about Modi Government but the aim of writing this post was to appreciate the government for what they have already done, for the good of us.
