“C’mon man! You’ve gotta go and make it this time.” He uttered these words to himself and went to take bath. He was trying to motivate himself to go for an interview at one of India’s leading BPO organizations. After graduating in 2004, he wanted to do some job and he did not want to way away time sitting idle at home. He wanted to experience the BPO wave during the time he had between his CAT entrance and the interview for admission into MBA program.

“Son..”, shouted his mother, “you’ll get late for the interview. It is already 9′o’clock and you have to reach there by 10. Make it fast.” “Just a sec mom, am coming.” He replied.

“I’ll have only tea”, he replied when his mom asked what he would have for his breakfast. He was addicted to tea. He used to say that it is the only one good habit he has which he has not given up since his childhood. “What! Only tea? I am not letting you go with this breakfast.” She reverted. Ok then; I am not having anything. “Oh God! Ok, wait. I will make you tea. What would you have with it? “Two slices of bread.”

11:16. He reached the place he was supposed to spend his next 12 months. “Ok man! It’s show time. Be ready.”

After dealing with all the formalities at the gate, which they say, are very important to get the BS: 44779 standard certification of security at BPO organization, he enters the interview hall. He has another ‘good habit’, analyzing people. “Oh man!” his said silently to himself. “So many guys. I hardly stand any chance here.” “But I am not leaving without giving interview.”

“Hi! Are you here for a calling process?” a lady asked him. “No! Back office.” He replied with his weak voice.

“For how long did you work at your previous organization? Only three months. How can we trust you? You will leave us anytime for any other good salary package.”

“See, I left that previous company because I worked in night shifts and it was a calling profile. Now here I am looking for a non-calling profile and preferably a day job. And regarding your doubt about my tenure, I can assure you six months of my service. After that, only a reasonable reason would make me leave the organization.” Answering her question, he thought that he would have to leave now. “I do not stand any chance of getting this job.”

“Here is your appointment letter. Be there on December 5 at 6:00 p.m., centre-2.”
